The only thing wrong is that those port houses appear to be RS style, and we need FRLG style throughout if possible. Though it's not that big of an issue since they seem to blend rather well, but some RS and FRLG tiles have big shading differences. AWESOME work though

I'd say the ones used here but I think they're RS too. Just don't worry about it for now, if the shading or the angle looks stand-out-odd on any of them we could always fix it.

Or you can simply do a recolour, using the colours of those houses in town.

^ thanks for the help. I also updated the first post with the route to Hillside Town, and Hillside town.

EEE! It's so clever the way you did hill side town! Now it really looks as though the town is built on a hill!

Yes quite pretty! The only thing I dislike are the little headbutt trees. Something's not right with them.

Shut up >.> Well the middle right one is offset to the others by a pixel if that's what you mean. But I think whoever sprited them should be commended! <.< >.> Great work though, MLS The next route needs to be a little more complicated, and there are probably more things to sort out, so I think Edgegrove will come next. Looking at the port map reminds me, can we make Headbutt or Cut smash pots please? Having played many handheld Zeldas, it feels wrong not to be able to smash pots.

One thing that Remy pointed out to me, the ledges are flipped over at the top, I don't think that's how it's supposed to look.

|
Post by BonzaiRob on Jan 8, 2007 16:04:30 GMT
They're not flipped over, just slightly different, though it does look strange. Might be two different styles, I'll check. Y'know, loooking at it now.. the ledges on the route need to go the other way. Otherwise, Hillside is lower than Maplewood, which is at sea level.
EDIT: Right. Guess what? Nintendo doesn't do ledges that go up.
So now what do we do? Think Remy can make us some more natural looking ones?

^ Thanks for pointing out the off set headbutt tree, I will fix it. As far as ledges are concerned, I really tried to make it look like it was on a hill and looked like the design that was presented to me. I guess the ledges don't look quite right, but until anyone makes ones that look better, they are good enough for now, and I can fix it later.

I have made ledges ... so use em ... if you want ... img362.imageshack.us/img362/9926/ledgesqm5.pngAlso I have been working on revamps of the the Ruins Of Alph ... cause the old buildings did them no justice ... I should be finished shortly .... also are we still having an observatory somwhere in one of the regions ... cause I have been working on a revamp of that too...

Mostly XML'd maplewood now. Some things have got changed (mostly standardisation, I think MLS makes her own tiles sometimes). It's here: ptreasures.net/xfiles/bonzairob/maplewood-cannot-be-arsed.pngI'm too tired to carry on, because what's left is the water (which will be tricky). The tops of the rocks were strange, I had to add a transparent block to stop the player walking off the top, but that's Nintendo, not MLS.

Update: I added Edgegrove's map. There is still space for the old tree and I left a space for the bank. We still need a route to Edgegrove!

Great work! Hopefully Remy will notice this, I don't know how far he's got with our plans for the blank lot If I XML this, I might add some more flowers, different kinds. Is that ok? And for the route between Hillside and Edgegrove, I think I'll edit the old route 56 that Shadolf made. That's quite long, enough for this I think.

Thanks. And sure, you can add more flowers and stuff. Be careful not to have too many or it could look bad. (I found that out the hard way. XD )

Very nice indeed, as usual. Just one thing, could you make the maps at least 640x480 (just adding trees works fine)? It would make things look better in the game.

Could we tile trees into the background and just map the ones at map boundaries?
|
|
|
Post by FMY on Feb 26, 2007 21:55:36 GMT
Oh, you mean filling empty space with trees? That should be possible. We'll add an extra tag then, so that you can specify which tree (or other object/image). I just need to know how to put them then (should be in the xml file too). Something like:
<fill-border image="tree.png" x_repeat="3" y_repeat"2" />
That way, the border would be filled with the "tree.png" picture and would be placed horizontally every 3 tiles and vertically every 2 tiles.

That sounds perfect. We'll have to wait till maps join up before we can play with edges though. (I mean that some maps, maplewood for instance, will have maple trees as the background, but others will have say the peach trees, or evergreens - joining them will be interesting).

Hi, I'm back! So do you still want me to tile some more trees?

|
Post by BonzaiRob on Mar 3, 2007 14:20:08 GMT
Nah, leave it for now. We'll see when it's in the engine.
I don't really know what you could do now.. maybe extend the first route a little bit. Or use the original first route to make a second route. Also, remember we have some water flowers and plants that you can add on REMY's sheet.
