I thought we should have a topic like this for reference. Could this be sticky, maybe? Here's mine:
Petital- Petite + Petal (Grass Starter) Purroot- Purr + root (Grass starter' evo) Puvinema- Puma + Vine (Final Grass Starter) Scaratle- Scarab + Beetle (Little blue bug) Beetorn- Beetle + Horn (Big blue bug) Lavash- Lava + Fish (Firefish) Flamarlin- Flame + Marlin (Fire swordfish) Pikkok- Variation of 'Peathingy' (Green Bird) Heroncholy- Heron + Melancholy (Big Green Bird) Chunemone- Change of Anemone (Anemone) Jelysquish- Jellyfish + Squish +The 10-Character limit (Jellyfish) Gatorock- Gator + Rock (Gator Head) Psymond- Psychic + Diamond (Blue crystal dude)
There's mine. I still need names for Gatorock's evo (once we decide on a sprite) and Psymond's pre-evo. How does Mirreflect sound?

Hey Jasdog, this thread is for the name-origins of the pokémon that are going to be IN the game. So don't post any made-up names, okay?

Leta: Mainly a variation of "little", then it does hint towards Letal and Letaligon.
Letal: Lethal + metal + little
Letaligon: Lethal + metal + cool final evo-sounding ending

I don't know dragonfree, I feel that Leta and Letal are too similar, maybe call the first one Letiny...or someting

They don't sound similar when I pronounce them. I don't know about you guys, but I pronounce them "LEE-tuh" and "lee-TAHL"
And it's Dragonfree's Pokemon. She has full ownership to the name and everything, and she should be able to decide what the name is.
After all, Pichu and Pikachu are similar sounding.

I actually emphasize the first syllable of both because in Icelandic the emphasis is always there (therefore I pronounce a lot of Pokémon names incorrectly, but I guess my way of pronuncing my own Pokémon would count) so it's LEE-tuh and LEE-tahl, but as Shadolf rightfully pointed out, it's my Pokémon and what right does everybody think they have to change the name, make Letaligon into the second evolution and add a kirin as the last one and whatnot? I'm open to suggestions about the moves and stuff as long as you have proper reasons to say it should be otherwise. The names, design and Pokémon themselves will NOT be changed, period.

You CHILL!! These were all suggestions, and you're right: WE don't have the right to change everything. THAT'S why we suggest all these things. We're trying to get the ultimate power-trio, and so everyone has the right to SUGGEST, okay? We're not changing things!
And when little kids are going to play this, or foreign people who barely know English, wouldn't the names look (almost) similar to them?

Well you guys have been continuing to bug her about it for a while now, even before she returned and finished Leta.
And I bet it's from difference of culture and language. I know that I speak Spanish with half Spanish and half New Yorkian accent. It's pretty amusing to them too.

To tell you the truth, the names are growing on me and I'm glad Dragonfree decided to keep them. I know I'd go nuts if everyone was telling me to change Treadfast's or Belload's name. I'm well aware that you guys (ZeroCool and vietrice) like to speak your opinion on Pokemon names, but tone it down and learn to accept what creator decides.

Well after the incident a while back, I've been careful about putting the word "suggestion" in all my posts of that sort, it certainly was not an attack at Dragonfree's creations but it seemed as though she took it like that
anyhoo, it's final now and that's that, let's move on

I should perhaps put in my signature "WARNING: I get ticked off VERY easily, and if I disagree with something that regards my own stuff, expect me to type very heatedly."
