I'm willing to slave away for hours on this, but I need a full list of locations and events first. Are we going to keep the inconsequential chatter and random houses of the real games?

Oh yes, but I was thinking of a little more funny lines. Such as in the PT building, I'll be by the stoves frying Doritos and you'll yell "I smell mass-produced corn chips over an open flame! Either Matt's cooking, or Cuddles broke her head and the contents spilled into a fire!"
Favourite. Line. Ever. Also, I was wondering whether we're gonna follow US or Canadian/UK spelling of things like colour/color and centre/centre. I of course think the Can/uk versions are better, but since we have a majoritaly american staff (I think at least, we sure have alot of dutch)

Well, let's focus on the normal, non-in-joke stuff first, 'K? But we can definetly have some fun with that...
Oh, and I think we should just adjust the spelling on a case-to-case basis. For example, I'm sure everyone would appreciate "colour," but "centre" just looks stupid to Americans.
Oh, and sloganizer...
"Don't worry, Shadolf takes care."

Well in the European Pokemon games is the text actually changed from the North American version?

No, but it annoys me Maybe it could depend on who's speaking. If they're European or Canadian, then they get u's. How about teh basement of the PT building has a load of shackles chained to computer desks... dodos and dodo jrs are all wanted escapees by Cuddles...

So all the text is Americanized?

|
Post by mattgcn on Aug 7, 2005 15:10:25 GMT
Well, I know I'll be stubborn and make sure anything my character says is canadianised, but yesah, you'll all need to edit anything I write to make sure it's americanised. Though I don't see the problem with using british/canadian terms if they arise (I dunno what is what since I already speak that way)
Or we could have a vote.

I say that it doesn't really matter, since everyone speaks differently anyway. Besides, who is really going to notice?

Personally, that seems a bit complicated... It basically boils down to this, regarding spelling:
International english: colour, licence, would have, specialise American english: color, license, would of, specialize
As for dialogue, we just factor in the character's origins and whoever write the dialogue for them. System messages (like menus and dexes) are either American English if we want to copy Nintendo or International English if we want to be, uh, politically correct, since this is technically an international game.

I thought would of/should of/could of was improper grammar all around? I always did the "have" because it's the right verb tense, like "I would have done this"

Maybe :/

Yeah, we always say would of and such, even though I'm pretty sure it is considered bad grammar.
