I discussed this with Matt, here's the idea.
Basically, instead of just choosing male or female, we extend the range of choices to hair, skin, clothing colours, perhaps even hairstyles and different outfits or positions, props/accessories... it shouldn't be too hard to code.
Thoughts? It might be better that having anyone wanting a custom trainer making their own charset.

And if what they want as a look isn't there, there's should be the base sprite (Just a face with the basic outline of the legs and such) and allow them to edit it to their liking. We should need to approve customs.
Basically, however the script/program works and whatever it's made in, if its outside the engine, it must generate a basic chipset, but first we'll need the full format.

Then they get teh closest one and like it I can PROBABLY do something in Flash to make the menu, but I don't think I can export it from Flash afterwards, unless we make every single combination and use them.

Let's say one pose for everyone... Nur. I'll work out some variables first.
SINGLE VALUES (only one of each, think radio buttons) Male/Female Skin 1, 2, 3 (light, medium, dark) Hair colour 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (blonde, brown, black, ginger then green, blue, red for the weird people) Hair style 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (short, medium, long, then stuff like mohicans and headbands) Upper body clothing 1, 2, 3 (three different tops) Lower body clothing 1, 2, 3 (three different trousers/skirts or whatever) Upper clothing colour 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (colours of the rainbow plus black, white and brown) Lower clothing colour 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (same again) Shoes colour 1 - 10 Bag colour 1 - 10
DOUBLE VALUES (any number of each) Props ?? (hats, rod, net, pokéball, pokédolls, random items)
Anything else? All together that's 22 680 000 different combinations, not counting the props. I think. Well, this is definitely a job for coding and not individual making.
We can make all the parts seperately, that means lots of recolouring and also aligning things (say the male character's pose is a fist in the air, if you want to add a pokéball prop, you put a fist holding the pokéball OVER the existing fist, same for any hold item).
Before we start making things, I want to know if this has support or not... After all, it would be simpler to have an avatar shop, BUT that would mean people who want custom avatars either spend time making them or time getting them made, where as this would be done at the start and editable through the game.

I've made a start, I've almost done the female trainer. Just need to do hair now. I based it off of I think Dark Pegasus' African American heroine. At the moment, you will have to print screen. The trainer's background is the 'null' pink that is like transparent for the PO engine, so you can copy it and make the chipset.
I could do with contacting an overworld spriter so we can make a full chipset instead of just the battle shot, but that can wait till this is in-game.

For that you would have to make your own, I'm not going to make this any more complicated than it has to be (I have make and recolour every part, then paste each one into flash, convert them all one-by-one to lossless, then make all the clips and stuff). This will be a generator in-game, but you'll be able to import your own pictures in the final version.

(the people who made Runescape) to make a Pokémon-esque game. You can see where I got my idea for a custom trainer.
